Atlantic Cloud

The Atlantic Cloud is a transatlantic computation network created, developed and operated by the AIRCentre associates. The nodes contribute to the pool of resources.

The Cloud counts with data storage, HPC (high-performance computing) and web servers and it increases the efficiency and effectiveness of scientific collaborationacross the Atlantic.

Currently, there are resources at the following partner institutions:

with more associates contributing to the pool of resources soon.

Architecture

The Atlantic Cloud is a hybrid cloud solution that combines the benefits of on-premises infrastructure with public cloud services, offering a flexible and scalable IT environment for associates. It leverages an API-first approach and microservices-based architecture to provide seamless integration and modular functionality. This architecture allows for efficient resource allocation, improved scalability, and enhanced security by enabling organisations to keep sensitive data on-premises while utilising resources from associates and public cloud services for less critical workloads. Additionally, it allows for seamless data sharing across associates.

Infrastructure

Atlantic Cloud’s infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offering is hosted in state-of-the-art facilities and managed by skilled IT experts across the associate nodes, providing all associates with customisation and control over their IT resources while allowing them to focus on core operations, while sharing the resources with their own associate networks.

Services include:

  • IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)
  • SaaS (Software as a Service)
  • Earth Observation (EO) data
  • API acess
  • Ocean modelling at supercomputer Escola de Sagres at IPRJ
