BlueMissionAA and MPA Europe Unveil MPA Awards for EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030

BlueMissionAA and MPA Europe have joined forces to launch the Marine Protected Areas (MPA) Awards during the 2nd Annual Forum of the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030” on March 5, 2024. These ground-breaking awards will celebrate and acknowledge outstanding Marine Protected Areas that are actively contributing to the ambitious goals of the EU Mission.

In an initiative to elevate the significance of Marine Protected Areas, the MPA Awards will prioritize areas with a robust stakeholder engagement component in their establishment and/or management. This move aims to spotlight not only the ecological achievements of these areas but also the collaborative efforts that make a real impact.

The deadline for applications is fast approaching on February 26, 2024, at 23:59 CET. Two exceptional MPAs will be honoured with awards by the European Commission Ocean and Waters Mission, with the winners receiving more than just recognition. The accolades include a Certificate presented by distinguished Mission Ocean and Waters actors, unparalleled visibility and promotion as a Mission Actor, and invaluable networking opportunities.

Winners will also gain access to ocean literacy and education tools, services from the Mission Implementation Platform and WaveLinks Platform, providing a wealth of knowledge, project portfolios, funding information, and stakeholder engagement methods. Furthermore, investment opportunities and expert advisory services will be extended to the winning MPAs.

To throw their hat in the ring, applicants must complete the provided form and endorse the Mission Ocean and Waters Charter. For those who haven’t endorsed the charter yet, there’s still time – complete the endorsement form before February 26, 2024, at 23:59 CET. Winners will enjoy a fully covered trip, including travel and accommodation expenses, to attend the grand award ceremony in the heart of Brussels, Belgium.

The MPA Awards not only mark a significant milestone in environmental recognition but also pave the way for future generations to appreciate the crucial role played by Marine Protected Areas in safeguarding our oceans and waters. It’s not just an award; it’s a celebration of commitment, collaboration, and a collective vision for a sustainable future.

Join us in this historic event as we honour those leading the charge in the EU Mission to “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030” by sharing this information with MPAs in European and EEA countries.
