The Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the Portuguese Polar Program (PROPOLAR), the European Polar Board (EPB) and the Atlantic International Research Centre (AIR Centre) opened a call for PhD fellowships topics on “Preservation and Restoration of Polar Marine and Coastal Ecosystems and Biodiversity”
AtlantECO, Mission Atlantic and AANChOR are co-organising a science to policy debate in the framework of the TARA Microbiomes flagship mission, which will dock in Portugal on October 3rd, 2022.
The 2022 UN Ocean Conference, co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal, took place on 27 June – 1 July 2022, in Lisbon, Portugal. The AIR Centre was present in several activities, both as organizers and participants of UNOC official side-events.
The AIR Centre EO Lab meets in Stockholm to sign a MoU with UNEP to create GRID Azores.
Th AIR Centre is now receiving data every few hours from several satellites, through a Direct Receiving Station (DRS).
ESAPlastics - De-Risk Action: Spectrometer for Marine Litter. This action will evaluate and develop at a low TRL, prospective technology that in the future can lead to the development of a spectrometer for marine litter detection from space. Clearly there is an opportunity to develop innovative technology that can take advantage of Earth Observation satellite constellation to provide a continuous monitoring of earth oceans and coastal areas.
