This paradigm must be changed in order to maintain the integrity of oceans and coastal areas for future generations. It is vital to secure the integrity of marine habitats and the biodiversity they support so that key ecosystem services promoting human well-being continue to be delivered. The sustainable development of marine and coastal ecosystems can only be achieved if we plan for the future, ensuring long-term political commitment and constant participation of all relevant stakeholders from governments, civil society, industry and academia.
The AIR Centre will build capacity for evidence-based governance of marine and coastal resources and raise awareness of local communities and decision makers on the economic value of marine spatial planning for sustainable development and preservation of marine and coastal ecosystems and biodiversity.
