The effective contribution of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture to mitigate these concerns must include diverse environmental, social and economic aspects with the aim to support innovative and inclusive seafood value chains to reduce environmental risks and improve productivity.
SUSTAINABLE FOOD PRODUCTION
Population growth continuously increases global food demand, which raises concerns related to the modification or destruction of coastal habitats, depletion of fish stocks and the disruption of the traditional livelihood of coastal communities across the Atlantic Ocean, among other growing concerns.
The AIR Centre will promote the development of new technologies and innovative decision support tools to enable a sustainable food supply and it will also partner with local communities to preserve sustainable traditional fishing practices and document relevant indigenous knowledge.
