A dialogue towards establishing a new research agenda on Data Science, Climate Change, Space and Oceans to be centered on the Atlantic, together with the potential development of an Azores International Research Center (i.e. AIR Center), has been prepared by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation, FCT, through a series of high level research workshops to discuss multilateral scientific cooperation through an integrative approach benefitting from the unique environment offered by the Azores and the Atlantic.

This third workshop held in the European Space Agency (ESA) Headquarters in Paris, was preceded by a first workshop in New York city, USA, on the 10th of June 2016, and a second workshop in the University of Azores, in São Miguel, Azores on the27th of June 2016.

The goal of this Portuguese Ministerial visit to ESA HQ and Azores related Workshop is the discussion of the role of the AIR Center contribution to foster ESA activities, identifying the Earth Observation (EO) activities on Space and Oceans that can be developed under the umbrella of the AIR Center and the potential industry associated to the implementation of space transportation activities in the Azores.
