Save the Date: JuliaEO Global Workshop returns in January 2026 and registration is open

The AIR Centre is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the JuliaEO Global Workshop 2026, taking place from January 5–9 in a hybrid format. Hosted in Terceira Island (Azores) and accessible online, the workshop is designed to strengthen programming skills for professionals working in Earth Observation. Participants will explore key topics such as data acquisition, processing, visualization, and classification using the Julia programming language. The program combines theory-based sessions with hands-on activities, including the use of datasets, libraries, automated workflows, AI tools, and classification algorithms. While in-person attendance is encouraged to foster collaboration, remote participants can join live sessions and engage via text chat. The workshop offers a unique opportunity to connect with the global EO community and advance technical expertise in a fast-evolving field. Space Agencies shape regional priorities at the II Ibero-American Meeting in Madrid

On September 10, partners from AIR Centre (Portugal), UNAM (Mexico) and IMar (Cabo Verde) held the kick-off meeting for ATLANTICO_SARG, a new triangular cooperation project funded under the second Call of the SEGIB / Camões, I.P. Triangular Cooperation Fund. Held online, the meeting brougtht together researchers and representatives from all three partner institutions to address the growing impact of Sargassum seaweed flooding on Cabo Verde's coasts.

Australian Ambassador strengthens scientific and diplomatic engagement during visit to the AIR Centre

The Australian Ambassador to Portugal, Dr. Helen Cheney, who also serves as Ambassador to Cabo Verde, Guinea Bissau and Sao Tome and Principe, visited the AIR Centre on Terceira Island as part of her official programme in the Azores. The visit emphasized scientific cooperation and the growing relevance of the Atlantic in Australia’s international engagement.
