Virtual Stakeholder Event “Coastal Resilience: An Atlantic Ocean of Action”

The All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance (AAORIA) is excited to announce a Virtual Stakeholder Networking Event titled “Coastal Resilience: An Atlantic Ocean of Action,” scheduled for 5 September 2024, from 14:00 to 16:00 CET. The event will inform participants about and invite them to engage in the All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance Action Area on Increasing Resilience of Coastal Communities. Agreed by the Members of the Alliance, this Action Area has the aim of:
‘Increasing our understanding of the relationship between the ocean and climate and developing outcome-oriented science for mitigating and adapting to the consequences of climate change, particularly for the benefit of increasing resilience of coastal communities.’
Attendees are invited to share their needs, visions, and opinions on coastal resilience, supported by insights from speakers showcasing the activities of diverse coastal communities. ATLANTICO_SARG project officially launched to tackle Sargassum impacts through science and collaboration

On September 10, partners from AIR Centre (Portugal), UNAM (Mexico) and IMar (Cabo Verde) held the kick-off meeting for ATLANTICO_SARG, a new triangular cooperation project funded under the second Call of the SEGIB / Camões, I.P. Triangular Cooperation Fund. Held online, the meeting brougtht together researchers and representatives from all three partner institutions to address the growing impact of Sargassum seaweed flooding on Cabo Verde's coasts.

Australian Ambassador strengthens scientific and diplomatic engagement during visit to the AIR Centre

The Australian Ambassador to Portugal, Dr. Helen Cheney, who also serves as Ambassador to Cabo Verde, Guinea Bissau and São Tomé and Príncipe, visited the AIR Centre on Terceira Island as part of her official programme in the Azores. The visit emphasized scientific cooperation and the growing relevance of the Atlantic in Australia’s international engagement.

The AIR Centre took part in the "Decentralised Workshop" in the Azores, held on 8 September 2026 at Expolab – Centro de Ciência Viva in Lagoa, São Miguel. The session forms part of the public participation process for the Strategic Evaluation supporting the creation of the Agency for Research and Innovation (AI²), E.P.E., promoted by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation and coordinated by PLANAPP.
