The historic city of Bruges, Belgium, is set to become the global focal point for marine biodiversity research and policy as it prepares to host the 7th World Conference on Marine Biodiversity (WCMB 2026) from November 17-20, 2026.
Organized by the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ), WCMB 2026 will also be recognized as a UN Ocean Decade Event. Under the theme: "The marine biodiversity insights we need for the ocean we want", it promises to align with global efforts to promote ocean science and conservation
Like in previous editions, WCMB 2026 will serve as a crucial platform for scientists, professionals, and policymakers to present their latest research findings, discuss policy and management issues, and explore emerging challenges related to marine biodiversity. The conference aims to enhance our collective understanding of marine biodiversity's past, present, and future while working towards sustainable ocean management and conservation solutions.
