The first edition of the International Aquaculture Exhibition (SIAq) is taking place from 6 to 8 October at the Centre international du commerce extérieur du Sénégal (CICES), in Dakar. The exhibition, which opened today, brings together around 500 experts from some 30 countries, and the AIR Centre is among the participants.
Organised by Senegal's National Aquaculture Agency (ANA) with Atlantic Mariculture, SIAq looks at how aquaculture can strengthen food security across Africa. For three days, fish farmers, researchers, investors and decision-makers meet for exhibitions, talks and business meetings, discussing where to invest, how to innovate and how to deliver real benefits on the ground.
AIR Centre's Deputy Executive Director Mafalda Carapuço and researcher Ana Faria attended the technical workshop "Senegal's Strategic Aquaculture Development Plan 2026–2030: guidelines and investment opportunities". Speakers from ANA and the Ministry of Fisheries presented the priorities that will guide the sector's growth over the next five years.
For the AIR Centre, which works with partners across the Atlantic on ocean science, data and the sustainable blue economy, the workshop was an opportunity to strengthen ties with Senegalese institutions and explore how science, Earth observation and international cooperation can support the plan's goals.
