AIR Centre and CPA-IA advance computational science and industrial AI in the Azores
The AIR Centre hosted the 16th Interdisciplinary Inter-Institutional Meeting in Sciences and Engineering (EI2CE) on February 19-20, 2026, in Terceira Island – the first time this Brazilian scientific series ventured outside Brazil.
Co-organized by the Applied Research Centre in Artificial Intelligence for Industry (CPA-IA) and AIR Centre, the meeting focused on computational modeling, AI, scientific computing infrastructures, and industrial applications. Researchers from institutions across Brazil and Portugal, including the University of the Azores, UERJ, SENAI CIMATEC, Instituto Superior Técnico, and the University of Porto, gathered to share research findings and strengthen international networks.

The event consolidated a growing partnership between CPA-IA, a Brazilian national centre bringing together 80 researchers from 23 institutions, and AIR Centre. The collaboration, which already includes connections with MIT, Imperial College, and other international institutions, aims to advance interdisciplinary research in emerging technologies.
The two-day programme featured presentations of AIR Centre’s computational infrastructures, technical seminars, and strategic discussions on future joint activities, reinforcing transatlantic scientific cooperation through the strategic position of the Azores.
