The AIR Centre will showcase the Internal Waves Service (IWS) at the Ocean Sciences Meeting 2026 (OSM26), running February 22-27 in Glasgow, UK.
On February 24, the AIR Centre’s Head of Data Science, Cloud Infrastrutcture, and Development Program João Pinelo, along with researcher Adriana Ferreira, will deliver a presentation titled “Internal Waves Service: Unifying Global Internal Solitary Wave Observations via Daily Sentinel-1 SAR Imagery” during a session on cutting-edge artificial intelligence for oceanographic monitoring and forecasting. This collaborative effort, developed with over 20 international partners, showcases how AI and Earth Observation are revolutionizing understanding of ocean dynamics, mixing processes, and climate interactions.
The IWS goes beyond academic research. It delivers actionable insights that enhance ocean safety and support sustainable development of marine infrastructures. The presentation in Glasgow will demonstrate how this innovative platform is transforming global ocean observation and monitoring capabilities.
