JuliaEO Global Workshop 2026 kicks off in Azores with high-performance computing keynote
The JuliaEO Global Workshop 2026 kicked off this Monday, January 5 2026, in Angra do Heroísmo, Azores, bringing together Earth observation professionals and Julia programming enthusiasts for an intensive week of hands-on training and expert presentations.
As part of the workshop program, the AIR Centre was pleased to welcome Dr. Amit Ruhela from the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) for an invited talk entitled “Julia at Scale: Experiences on TACC Supercomputers.”
In his presentation, Dr. Ruhela shared valuable insights into running Julia at scale on some of the world’s leading high-performance computing (HPC) systems, highlighting key challenges and solutions related to parallel computation, performance, and scalability. The talk provided a compelling perspective on how Julia can be effectively leveraged in large-scale scientific and engineering applications, including Earth observation.
The JuliaEO Global Workshop 2026, organized by the AIR Centre with support from FLAD – Fundação Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento and Câmara Municipal de Angra do Heroísmo, runs through January 9, 2026, in a hybrid format combining in-person sessions in Angra do Heroísmo with online participation.
The AIR Centre thanks Dr. Ruhela for his excellent contribution to JuliaEO26 and for sharing his expertise with the Julia and Earth observation communities.
