Networking Friday with Suleiman Sadiku (FUTMINNA, Nigeria)

On June 19th, 1-2 PM UTC, we met Suleiman Sadiku, Professor at FUTMINNA – Federal University of Technology Minna, Nigeria. The title of his presentation is “Towards a Viable Blue Economy for Sustainable Development: Floating Aquafeed and Allied Advances in Research and Development – The Case of Nigeria”. The session was moderated by Asma Ibrahim, acting Director of the AIR Center | Nigeria and former Deputy Director and head of the Climate Change Division at NASRDA – Nigerian National Space Research and Development Agency.

Suleiman has a PhD in Aquaculture Nutrition on Commonwealth Scholarship at Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling, United Kingdom, a MSc. in Fisheries on Federal Government Scholarship at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria and a B.Sc (Hons) in Zoology Hydrobiology / Fisheries Option at University of Benin, Benin-City, Nigeria. His experience at FUTMINNA includes positions as Deputy Vice Chancellor (2013 – 2017), Director of Academic Planning (2007 – 2012), Deputy Director of Centre for Climate Change and Freshwater Resources (2006 – 2007) and Head of Department, Department of Water Resources, Aquaculture & Fisheries Technology (1998 – 2002 / 2004 – 2006).

Suleiman published over 100 scientific papers and supervised multiple dissertations and thesis. He holds various patents and awards and has important national assignments such as Chairman of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Postgraduate Programme Audit, Delta State University, Chairman and Member of several NUC Accreditation teams on Agriculture discipline, Aquaculture and Fisheries and Chairman and Member of Several Federal Government Review Panels on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) meetings of Federal Ministry of Environment. He is/was involved in several consultancy and research projects , such as FAO Consultant as Feed Specialist to the Aquaculture and Inland Fisheries Project (AIFP) of the National Special Programme for Food Security, 2004-2005 and as Consultant to Federal Ministry of Environment.
