Networking Friday with New Space Portugal: Atlantic Constellation Services Showcase Atlantic SENSE: Geospatial Tool for Climate Resilience and Environmental Monitoring
In this session we will briefly present the project New Space Portugal, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan of Portugal as well as the Demonstrators of Services that are being developed for the Constellation of the Atlantic. +ATLANTIC will present Atlantic SENSE: a Geospatial Tool for Climate Resilience and Environmental Monitoring. While the platform integrates geospatial information on multiple natural hazards and risks, two services shall be presented: then Extreme Temperatures Module, enhancing situational awareness for urban heat and cold stress conditions and offering integrated weather-related risk forecasts on human health impacts, and the Coastal Hazards Module, offering actionable intelligence for strategic planning and operational emergency response to coastal threats such as erosion, flooding, and overwash. At the end of the presentations, the participants will have the opportunity to provide feedback about the Services through a survey. The feedback will be considered for future evolutions of the Services, to be developed in the scope of Atlantic SENSE.
Program (PM/UTC):
01:00 -01:05 – Introduction – Atlantic SENSE: a Geospatial Tool for Climate Resilience and Environmental Monitoring | Ana Oliveira (+ATLANTIC CoLAB)
01:05-01:25 – Advancing Climate Intelligence: Managing Urban Heat and Cold Risks with ATLANTIC SENSE | Ana Oliveira
01:25-01:45 – Science-Based Decision Support for a Changing Coast: The ATLANTIC Sense Coastal Hazards Service | Pedro Almeida
01:45-02:00 – Feedback Survey + Q&A
Speakers

Ana Oliveira
+ATLANTIC CoLAB
Ana Oliveira is an Earth Observation applications expert, currently involved in remote sensing imagery and machine learning-based solutions to tackle climate change-related challenges, especially focusing on atmospheric and oceanic temperature extremes. She has a PhD degree from the MIT Portugal Program – Sustainable Energy Systems (sustainable cities branch), where she developed urban air/land surface temperature prediction models to map heat hazards in cities, in present-day and future heatwave events. She is the first author of more than 11 peer-reviewed scientific publications/conference communications and is participating in several National and European-funded projects tackling these issues. She has recently been appointed to the role of CTO for Space where she is leading the institution’s strategy on all things related to the space sector (downstream segment).

Pedro Almeida
+ATLANTIC CoLAB
Pedro Almeida is an oceanographer (PhD in Marine Sciences by Plymouth University, UK) specializing in coastal morphodynamics, hydrodynamics, and climate-related coastal hazards. As Senior Scientist at CoLAB +ATLANTIC, he leads research and consultancy projects on erosion and coastal risk management. He is also a Collaborating Professor at FURG (Brazil) and in the Erasmus Mundus COASTHazard MSc. Author of over 50 peer-reviewed papers in journals such as Nature Communications, Geomorphology, and Remote Sensing, he bridges academia and industry to advance innovative solutions for coastal resilience.
