SAU – Sistema de Alertas UNICOL
Sistema de Alertas UNICOl (SAU) is a web service designed to assist cattle farmers in the Azores. The service helps farmers manage their operations, specifically:
-
Reducing the impact of the presence of sporidesmin (the spores of the fungus Piythomyces chartarum) on the pastures, which cause hepatic health issues to the cattle, which lead to animal discomfort, loss of productivity, infertility or even death; with significant economic losses to the farmers.
-
Thermal stress, measured by high THI (Temperature-Humidity Index) values: High temperatures and humidity can severely impact livestock health, milk production and reproduction.
This innovative service is the result of a collaborative effort between AIR Centre, UNICOL, and the IoT and sensory network of TERinov highlighting a shared commitment to improving agricultural practices and ensuring the well-being of livestock.
The SAU service offers several essential features to support farmers and UNICOL staff:
-
SMS Notifications: Farmers receive timely alerts directly on their phones, ensuring they stay informed about potential risks to their livestock.
-
Web Dashboard: UNICOL staff can access a user-friendly web dashboard to manage alert contacts and monitor susceptibility on an interactive web map.
-
Weather Monitoring: The service includes real-time updates from weather stations deployed in the field, providing vital information that can impact livestock health.
-
On-the-Fly Alerts: The ability to send custom messages as alerts to all contacts instantly ensures that critical information is communicated quickly and effectively.
Farmers receive timely SMS notifications containing critical information, while UNICOL staff can access the web dashboard for system management and monitoring. For more information about the SAU service and how it can benefit cattle farming operations, please visit the webpage.
