The University of Azores is running an international search for a permanent Assistant Professor position in Computer Science, specializing in Data Science with a focus on Earth Observation. This position represents a significant collaboration between the university and key institutional partners, including the Regional Government of Azores, the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD), the Portuguese Space Agency, and the AIR Centre.
The professorship aims to strengthen Earth Observation capabilities through a multidisciplinary approach, combining Remote Sensing and Satellite Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science and Big Data, as well as Cyber-Physical Systems and Drone Technology. These fundamental disciplines will drive innovation in Earth Observation, providing new tools and methods to enhance the quality and development of platforms and applications.
The strategic appointment will support crucial sectors in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, from open sea and deep sea monitoring to precision agriculture and forestry. The role will also contribute to risk area monitoring, natural disaster management, and nature conservation and biodiversity protection.
The position, jointly sponsored by the AIR Centre and the Regional Government of the Azores, showcases the region’s commitment to advancing Earth Observation technologies and their practical applications in the region and beyond.
