Networking Friday on the All-Atlantic Pledging Campaign
On July 9th, 2021, 1-3 PM UTC, the Networking Friday on the All-Atlantic Pledging Campaign discussed the existing commitments and the way forward to better understand, care and protect our threatened Atlantic ocean. Every day we hear or read about the ever-growing list of threats that our ocean is now facing due mostly by human action or inaction. From global warming and habitat destruction to marine pollution and overfishing, marine ecosystems and biodiversity are severely impacted, so urgent global action is needed to immediately revert current trends and to broadly restore and preserve the ocean’s health for future generations.
Networking Friday with the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC)
On June 18th, 2021, 1-3 PM UTC, we had a very exciting session with the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), in support of the United Nations Programme on Space Applications. SGAC is a global non-governmental, non-profit organisation and network which aims to represent university students and young space professionals to the United Nations, space agencies, industry, and academia.
Ocean Exploration, Ocean Science, and Ocean Technology: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
On June 8, 2021, 2:00-4:00 PM UTC, we will commemorate the World Ocean Day with a unique panel led by Alan Leonardi, former Director of NOAA’s Ocean Exploration Program and current President and CEO of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership, which represents the leading American ocean science, research, and technology organizations from academia, industry, and the larger nonprofit sector, in shaping the future of ocean science and technology and in setting the ocean community up for success.
The central topic will be the past, present and future of ocean observation and how it will contribute for achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water and for delivering greater benefits for both the ocean ecosystems and for society within the context of the UN Decade of Ocean Science 2021-2030.
Networking Friday with Isa Elegbede (BTU)
On June 11th, 2021, 1-2 PM UTC, Isa Elegbede, Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU), Cottbus, Germany, discussed how to integrate approaches in seafood certifications through socio-ecological and technological inclusiveness in the Blue Economy. The moderator was Ife Okafor-Yarwood is a Lecturer in Sustainable Development at the School of Geography and Sustainable Development, University of St Andrews.
Networking Friday with ASTRAL
On May 28th, 2021, 1-3 PM UTC, we will have a very special Networking Friday with ASTRAL (All Atlantic Ocean Sustainable, Profitable and Resilient Aquaculture), which is a HORIZON 2020 project financed under the Blue Growth programme, and is led by the Norwegian Research Centre (NORCE). The project will contribute to the implementation of the Belém Statement to develop a strategic partnership on marine research and it will participate in building the All Atlantic Ocean Community.
All-Atlantic marine research infrastructure network (AA-MARINET)
On June 3rd, 2021, 1-3 PM UTC/AZOST, the partners of the All-Atlantic marine research infrastructure network (AA-MARINET) will organize a side event at the All-Atlantic2021 Conference, which will be another important milestone towards the establishment of an effective process for sharing marine research infrastructures, including the implementation of an All-Atlantic Trans-National Access / infrastructure sharing mechanism. This milestone is of crucial importance to address common challenges related to the area of ocean observation, forecasting and monitoring within the context of the Galway and Belem Statements and the UN Decade of the Ocean Science.

On May 21st, 2021, 1-3 PM UTC, the Networking Friday with EU Marine Robots will present an overview of the H2020 project EU Marine Robotics Research Infrastructure Network (EUMR), which will be organized around the three types of activities of the project: Transnational Access (TNA). Joint Research (JRA) and Networking Activities (NA).
Atlantic Smart Cables: Challenges and Opportunities of the CAM Ring
ANACOM and the AIR Centre are organizing a side-event to the All-Atlantic 2021 Conference, which is an online workshop on “Atlantic Smart Cables: Challenges and Opportunities of the CAM Ring” to be held on June 3, 2021 at 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM (UTC / AZOST). Considering that SMART cables will respond to urgent scientific and societal needs, the workshop will address the concept of SMART Cables, discuss the use of submarine telecom cables for seismic and environmental monitoring building upon the replacement of the CAM (Continent, Azores and Madeira Islands) Ring, and explore potential ways of innovative collaboration between industry, governments and academia for societal impact in the Atlantic region.
Networking Friday with Alfred Ng (CSA) and Luis Gomes (AAC Clyde Space)
On May 14th, 2021, 1-2 PM UTC, we will commemorate our 50th session with a double feature: Alfred Ng (Technical Lead on the Canadian CubeSat Project at the Canadian Space Agency) will give a talk about the Canadian CubeSat Project:Building Space Capacity in Canada and Luis Gomes (AAC Clyde Space) will briefly discuss the journey that AAC Clyde Space is undertaking to offer users more and better data, following the trends that emerged in the United Kingdom in the last decade. The moderator will be Anna Guerman, Associate Professor at the Department of Aerospace Sciences at the University of Beira Interior in Covilha, Portugal.
