On May 7th, 2021, 1-2 PM UTC, Claire Jolly, Head of Unit in the Directorate for Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), will present OECD's ongoing ocean economy measurement work, involving many ocean champions. The moderator will be Conceição Santos, Deputy Director of the Portuguese Directorate-General for Maritime Policy (DGPM).

Networking Friday with MISSION ATLANTIC
On April 30th, 2021, 1-3 PM UTC, we will have a very special Networking Friday with MISSION ATLANTIC. Patrizio Mariani (Institut for Akvatiske Ressourcer - DTU Aqua), Saskia Otto (Universität Hamburg), Sergio Floeter (Federal University of Santa Catarina), Roland Proud (University of St Andrews), and David Reid (Marine Institute) will show how the MISSION ATLANTIC project is contributing to a better and more sustainable future for life on Earth by studying the complexity of Atlantic Ocean ecosystems, maritime culture, traditions and sustainable management.

On April 23rd, 2021, 1-3 PM UTC, the Networking Friday with LABOMAR brought together experts from the Institute of Marine Sciences (LABOMAR) at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), the State University of Ceara (UECE), the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), the Florida State University (FSU) and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). They discussed the balance sheet of an environmental disaster in Brazil (2019-2020), which was the most extensive oil spill in tropical oceans ever.

Networking Friday with GEO Blue Planet
On April 16th, 2021, 1-2 PM UTC, Emily Smail, Executive Director of the GEO Blue Planet Initiative, and Audrey Hasson, Head of the GEO Blue Planet European Office, introduced the GEO Blue Planet initiative and showcased on-going success stories from 4 different thematic Working Groups. They will highlight how GEO Blue Planet identifies data and information gaps, provides network and coordination support and supports best practices covering a wide range of topics such as eutrophication, sargassum, marine litter and oil spill. The moderator was Leah Mupas Segui, Senior Associate with the Pew Charitable Trusts.

Networking Friday with the Portuguese Hydrographic Institute
On April 9th, 2021, 1-2 PM UTC, Miguel Bessa Pacheco, Technical Director, and João Vitorino, Oceanographer, will tell us how the Portuguese Hydrographic Institute (Instituto Hidrográfico) contributes to expand the scientific knowledge of the Atlantic Ocean.

Networking Friday on Ecosystems Health and Resilience with IB-S
On March 26th, 2021, 1-3 PM UTC, Claudia Pascoal and Filipe Costa, from the Institute of Science and Innovation for Bio-Sustainability (IB-S ) at the University of Minho, Portugal, will share with us their perspective on next-generation environmental monitoring and management for ecosystems health and resilience. The moderator will be Eduardo Pereira (IB-S).

Networking Friday with Konstantinos Topouzelis (UAegean)
On March 19th, 2021, 1-2 PM UTC, Konstantinos Topouzelis, University of the Aegean, marvelled us with his presentation "Fighting the ocean plastic pollution with the use of satellite images and drone data: Plastic Litter Project (PLP), history and future steps". The moderator was Leah Mupas Segui, who just started a new position with the Pew Charitable Trusts as part of their Preventing Ocean Plastics research team.

Networking Friday with Jim Costopulos (Global Oceans)
On March 12th, 2021, 1-2 PM UTC, we had Jim Costopulos, CEO and Founder of Global Oceans, who talked about The Future of Ocean Science: Building Scale and International Collaboration. The Moderator was Charles J. Vörösmarty, Founding Director of the Environmental Sciences Initiative at the Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) at the Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY).

Networking Friday on Science for All with Ciencia Viva
On March 5th, 2021, 1-2 PM UTC, we will have a very exciting Networking Friday on Science for Kids with Ciência Viva. This session will bring together young scientists who will share with us their ideas and projects for a better future. Rosalia Vargas, president of Cienvia Viva will open the session and then Ana Noronha will moderate a lively session on space, climate change and the ocean with young people from Ciência Viva projects.

Networking Friday with the Fulbright Portugal Program
On February 26th, 2020, 1-3 PM UTC, we learned more about America’s flagship international exchange program, the Fulbright Program, which is managed in Portugal since 1960 by the binational Fulbright Commission-Portugal. Through unique educational and cultural exchange programs, Fulbright’s diverse and dynamic network of scholars, alumni and partner institutions fosters mutual understanding between the United States and Portugal, shares knowledge across communities, and improves lives around the world. Established in 2017, the Fulbright Award in Space, Atmosphere, Ocean, Climate, Energy and Data Science / AIR Centre, with the support of FCT, offers the opportunity for U.S. Scholars to research in disciplines within the scope of AIR Centre’s research agenda – Marine Resources and Biodiversity; Healthy and clean Oceans; Earth observation from deep ocean to near Space; mitigation and adaptation to Climate Change; sustainable Energy systems and Data Science – with a focus on innovation and creative approaches in multi-national research networks.
