Networking Fridays with INNOAQUA
The INNOAQUA project aims to pave the path towards the upcoming sustainable and diversified EU in-land aquaculture industry by leaning on the demonstration and mainstreaming of innovative algae-based foods and solutions, and ecology, circularity and digitalization concepts. During this session, we will present the project and go more into depth on.

Speakers
Dorinde Kleinegris
INNOAQUA Introduction
Dr. Dorinde Kleinegris is Principal Investigator Microalgae at NORCE and holds a part-time position as associate professor in Marine Biotechnology at the University of Bergen. She has a background in bioprocess engineering from Wageningen University. The research of Dr. Kleinegris focusses on microalgae strain selection and improvement, cultivation and process design, as well as techno-economic and life cycle assessment studies of the microalgae production chain. Next to scientific participation and supervision in projects, she has strong background in project management, both of EU and national projects as well as bilateral projects with industry.
Markus Grendstad Rousseau
Social acceptance of algae-based food
Markus Grendstad Rouseau is a researcher at the Center for Modeling Social Systems at NORCE, with a background in community planning as well as cultural and community psychology. His current work focuses on analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, particularly in the context of agent-based models.
Pia Steinrücken
Demo 1: Microalgae & salmon in land-based IMTA – lessons learned so far
Pia Steinrücken is Researcher at NORCE and has a background in microalgal biology and biotechnology. Her research activities include
microalgal cultivation, process design optimization, and microalgal biomass production at laboratory- and pilot-scale. A strong focus of her current work is investigating the use of waste streams as a nutrient source for microalgal production, and its impact on microalgal performance and biomass quality.
Rui Pereira
INNOAQUA Demo 2: Macroalgae & sole in land-based IMTA – lessons learned so far
Rui Pereira is presently the Head of Seaweed Division at A4F – Algae for Future, a company with more than 15 years of experience in the
field of algae biotechnology. Before, he was the research director at Algaplus, Lda, a company that he co-founded in 2012 and where he occupied different roles. Academically trained as a Biologist obtained his PhD in 2004, with work developed in between the University or Porto and the University of Connecticut (UConn, USA). The interest for applied research with seaweed started immediately after finishing his BSc and continued until present. As researcher and including also the years within the business field, he accumulates the experience of participation in more than 20 national and international projects, published several book chapters and more than 40 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals.
Carlos León
INNOAQUA Sustainability & circularity assessments
Carlos is Chief Innovation Officer of Sustainn. Has a background on wind energy sector. Circular Economy & Cradle to Cradle consultant, teacher and mentor, has given training to hundreds of people and writing numerous posts & articles about circular economy. Currently focused on: Innovation projects about the development of methodologies and tools to implement circular economy principles and measuring circular economy and sustainability through Life cycle sustainability-circularity assessments of products and services (LCSA, LCC, LCA, SLCA)
