Project Description
The BioProtect project is part of a European initiative aimed at protecting and restoring marine and coastal ecosystems to strengthen climate resilience. It focuses on developing innovative, adaptable solutions to halt biodiversity loss in European seas, aligning with the EU’s 2030 environmental targets.
By creating an innovative area-based management decision-support framework (ABM-DSF), BioProtect will involve local communities, monitor and predict marine biodiversity, and map human pressures, prioritize areas for protection and restoration and measure the ecological and socio-economic impacts of conservation actions.
The project will test these solutions at sites across the Atlantic, from the Arctic to the Azores, and explore various scenarios to address climate change and biodiversity protection. In addition, it will give cascade funding to applicants that would like to test the tools in their areas.
