PROJECT DESCRIPTION

BioMUST4All develops innovative and inclusive tourism products that allow everyone to experience the terrestrial and marine biodiversity of the Azores in an accessible and sustainable way. The project integrates tourism, environmental education, and conservation, ensuring universal accessibility across all activities.
At the core of the project are the BioMUSTs: short biodiversity observation trails and sites adapted to provide safe and accessible nature experiences. Each site features interpretive materials and hands-on learning tools designed according to Universal Design principles, enabling participation by people with different physical or functional limitations. The project aligns with the ISO 21902 standard for accessible tourism.
BioMUST4All supports the transformation of the Azores into a Smart Tourism Destination by promoting innovation, sustainability, accessibility, and collaboration among local, regional, and international stakeholders. It contributes to key UN Sustainable Development Goals related to inclusion (SDG 10), sustainable communities (SDG 11), and biodiversity protection (SDGs 14 and 15).
The project promotes environmental monitoring and citizen science, combining scientific protocols with community participation. It invests in training for guides, tourism operators, students, and the local community, strengthening scientific literacy and long-term conservation awareness.
BioMUST4All strengthens the regional economy while protecting natural heritage, positioning the Azores as a model for inclusive and sustainable nature-based tourism.
